Our Mission

Empower patients, caregivers, and care teams to work together to safely manage health at home

We were inspired to start RubyWellTM by our own experiences while caring for people we love. While everyone’s journey through caregiving is unique, one thing that remains constant is the financial strain it can cause. That strain can make providing care even harder.

We’re building solutions to help pave a path to financial stability for all family caregivers, help care providers serve more of our nation’s growing population of older adults, and help lower health care spending for families and our health system.

Family caregiver FAQs

I’m caring for a spouse. Does that disqualify me?

Unlike some Medicaid and VA programs, RubyWell can help any eligible family caregiver get paid, including a spouse or even a friend. You must be at least 18 years old, legally allowed to work in the U.S., and may be required to pass background and/or drug tests to get paid to care for your loved one.

Will RubyWell take a cut of my pay?

No, you’ll be paid the going hourly rate for home health aides in your area. RubyWell doesn’t take a penny of your earnings.

What is required of me if I join RubyWell?

If you qualify for our program, you’ll need to complete a combination of online and in-person training and pass a test to become a Medicare-certified Home Health Aide.

Does the person I care for have to spend down most of their assets to qualify for RubyWell?

RubyWell is not a needs-based program, like Medicaid. So we don't require care recipients to meet any income or asset limits. If your family qualifies for RubyWell, the person you care for can hold on to what they've got.

Would the money I make from this program be taxable income?

Yes, any money you earn as a certified home health aide or CNA with one of our home health agency partners is taxable.

Is there a copay for home health services?

There is no copay for covered home health care services under Original Medicare. If the person you care for qualifies for home health care, they pay $0 for these services.
Medicare Advantage plans must cover at least the same home health benefits as Original Medicare, but they may charge a copay for home health services, depending on the specific plan.
